Mother remembers daughter after death by drunk driver

Melissa Giorgio, a college student, is remembered by her mother. Giorgio died in 2008, a result of a drunk driving accident in Lower Manhattan. Her mother is now active in Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

John McNamara: Husband, fireman, 9/11 rescue worker

As a New York City firefighter, John McNamara rushed to Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001. He spent 500-plus hours working in the aftermath. He died in August 2009 from Stage IV colon cancer, which doctors believe was directly linked to the toxins he inhaled during the rescue work.

As marathon fever died down, with the refreshment stands dismantled and crowds dispersed and New York City returned to its routine, wheelchair marathoner David Frasier pushed his way to the finish line with his team of guides by his side.

Bedford Avenue bands rock the marathon

More than 100 musicians and bands performed along all 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon’s course, pepping up the runners and providing entertainment for the onlookers. On Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, about 10 groups were set up on the street corners.
