Beekeepers and non-profit push to legalize beehives

By Wadzanai Mhute Since December 2008, the New York City Beekeepers Association, working with Just Food, a non-profit organization that connects local farms to neighborhoods and communities, petitioned City Council for an amendment of the law to exempt bees. So far 3,358 people signed the petition.

PARK(ing) Day is "an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into 'PARK(ing)' spaces: temporary public parks," according to the Web site parkingday.org. It was started in 2005 in San Francisco. On Broadway, two groups set up their green spots; one near Barnard College and the other outside Columbia University. — Wadzanai Mhute
